How much do pest / mice control services like Terminix or Orkin cost? Do they work?

After cleaning under my stove I saw a slew of mouse droppings which was the first indication we had a big problem. We live near a field and I bought these humane mice traps and have caught 3 mice in a period of 3 days. However, I think the problem is much bigger than I anticipated. I am thinking about a service but how much does it cost? Would it be safe for my two dogs and family? Do these services actually work in getting rid of mice? How much do pest / mice control services like Terminix or Orkin cost? Do they work?
From a former Terminix Technician:

The pest control industry is one of the biggest rippoffs in the country! They prey upon people's ignorance %26amp; coerce them into signing up for a long-term contract. DON'T DO IT!!!

Forget about humane treatment of a rodent. Get some Decon and put it where your dogs can't get to it. Every time a tray goes empty, replace it with a full one. Problem solved. How much do pest / mice control services like Terminix or Orkin cost? Do they work?
they cost too much and they don't work and their ad on this site is the single most annoying thing in the world besides george w.
It may be better in the long run to adopt a cat or two from the Humane Society in your area. That's the best mouse deterrent I can recommend!!
I would suggest using glue traps. I know, it's a little gross to throw out afterwards, but it's the best way for a couple of reasons. The spring traps just aren't always effective. Many a mouse has figured that one out. The poison pellets, as you may be able to place them where your pets can't go, you can't guarantee that the mouse isn't going to die where your pet can get to it. And if your pet eats a poisoned mouse, it could still be poisoned. Also, there is nothing worse than the smell of a dead mouse decomposing somewhere in your walls. They die somewhere hidden or where you can't get to them most of the time. And trust me, you will tear walls out if that's what it takes to get rid of that smell.
we had terminex for 4 years and i thought that they were a waste of money. or issue however was termites- and when we got the house the first 2 years plus all baiting systems were paid for. it cost us a few hundred a year to keep the baiting systems. yes- it got rid of my small infestation of termites- however instead of killing them they seem to just move from location to another...

for mice there are pelets that you can place in areas that your pets can not get too (ie under the stove and behind the fridge.) i have heard mixed reactions on the things you plug in the walls that are supposed to send high-frequeny signals scaring rodents out of the house. (i do know that the cheap ones dont work)
It can cost from $35 and up.. They actually want to come look at the square foot of your home.. Now if you live in a duplex or a condo.. or apt..they wont guarantee it unless your neighbors do it too.. Be careful and shop around because it gets kinda pricey! also they will want to do more then 1 treatment!
I have a contract with Terminix. They show up 4 times a year and spray around the house with something that keeps the bugs/critters out. They also treat the inside, attic and garage. I have seen 1 water bug and 1 roach in the last year.

They aren't cheap (about $700 a year), but I have found they are well worth the money.
