i am a college student without health insurance and was wondering if the doctor visit which is covered in the health services fee would be able to prescribe me birth control for acne, but would there be additional tests and fees i would have to pay besides the cost of the bcp?How much would birth control for acne cost if i do not have insurance?
Try Acne Free. You can get it form Walmart/ Costco for 20 dollars every three months. Its a great deal and the medication REALLY works. How much would birth control for acne cost if i do not have insurance?
BCP vary in cost from 20-50 a month. Your school may subsidize this. My school's health center offers BCP.
You do generally need a pelvic exam and pap smear to start BCP. You have to come in for check ups to make sure it is not affecting your blood pressure.
Some places, like Planned parenthood and other teen clinics, offer BCP at a very reduced price.
If it is strictly for acne, it does not always work. There are other benefits though, like cycle regularity.
Instead, you could visit a dermatologist. I also recommend that you look into your school's health insurance--or other places that offer low cost insurance if this is an issue.
You should be covered! I was in an accident when I was 14 and I did not have insurance. It resulted in huge medical bills. Don't let this happen to you.
Like someone said before, it can cost anywhere from 20-50 a month, maybe more, maybe less. If your school offers insurance, then they might pay for it, but there are tests that anyone must go through. My college required me to go to the gynecologist. It's standard, really. How many kids do you think go in and say, ';I need birth control....for my acne, I swear!'; just because they're embarrassed? Many. So your school would probably make you do the same just to make sure you're sexually hunky-dory. Also, not everyone's acne clears up with birth control. In fact, there's a chance it could get worse. If you're not willing to go through with the whole shebang, then just work with facial cleansers and stuff like that. Birth control seriously changes your hormones, and it's important that you go talk to a professional before you make any huge decisions. Don't be afraid to talk if there is another reason you want birth control pills (like sex, of course, but maybe for a better period), because they can help you out a lot.
Good luck with your decision, and hopefully your school can help you out!
You can easily check your minimal rates in internet, for example here -

As I remember they can provide such a birth control insurance for a very cheap rate.
my birth control is $65 a month. you're probably better off looking for an acne treatment if you just want it for the acne.
