I have a '99 Ranger pickup, and went in for a front end alignment, only to be told I have a bad control arm, and that'd set me back $600 when all was said and done. Is that a fair price?
It was at a local garage, not a dealer. How much should a control arm replacement cost?
A dealer would charge you even more.
I was quoted 900 by a dealer (for a PT Cruiser). I took it to another place that just does shocks and brakes, etc. They told me that the Chrysler dealer was full of shyt and i just needed a couple new bushings. He even let me look under my car and showed me how much of a f-ing liar the Chrysler dealer was. I got my car fixed for 220 bucks and that included a ball joint too.How much should a control arm replacement cost?
I agree with Don 100%. $600 for a control arm is high, but check your bill and look at all of the other work done. Balljoints are expensive (and labor intensive if they did upper and lower) and of course your alignment.
For $600 I would think they are replacing more than just a control arm....$200 for the arm, $50 per ball joint(2) and labor/alignment would be closer....
That sounds way high. Check the dealor for what the list price for the part is, and dont pay anything (for the part). I dont see how that part could be more then a hundred bucks. Get a detailed estimate on what they are replacing. They may have to do ball joints, etc.
600 bucks to take off a ball joint and a screw and take the tire off thats a lot.
